Numerical Solutions for Partial Differential Equations

Submitted : Spring 2016

Parabolic partial differential equations are very common in higher level engineering courses. Many transient real world situations can be explained though parabolic PDE’s like sound propagation, heat transfer, and fluid flow. In this project we will be using a finite difference method to find a numerical solution to a heat transfer problem. Excel will be used as a computational tool that will allow us to run a variety of irregular boundary and initial conditions and solved them numerically with ease. It will, without a doubt, be very beneficial for engineering students to learn how to solve PDE’s numerically with easy to access software like excel.
