Accurate Depiction of Mannochloris oculata Growth Curve

by Jeffrey Cox

Submitted : Fall 2014

A procedure was devised to accurately graph the growth rate of the algae Nannochloris oculata. Growth data from experimentation taken previously was graphed against time, and the asymptote, lag time, and maximum growth were set up to be calculated. Gompertz sigmoidal graph equation was selected to be altered by adding these biological factors in place of the purely mathematical factors so that it made sense biologically. The modified equation was then primed to allow growth curves to be able to be fit and predict to total and maximum growth rate of the subject being tested at any time interval.
