Approximation of Landfill Waste in 2014

by Nikita Dewantoro

Submitted : Fall 2014

The goal of this project is to determine whether or not using the tangent line, as a tool to approximate the amount of increasing solid waste in a single landfill, would be an accurate enough estimation after a certain amount of time had passed. This is calculated by using the tangent line to extrapolate the function, originally given as a differential equation representing an increasing rate. The second derivative is then taken from this value of the approximation, in order to determine whether it was an overestimation or an underestimation of the amount of total solid waste in the landfill.
