Implications of Fourier Series for the Manipulation of Analog Television Signals

by Timothy Feldmann

Submitted : Fall 2014

The purpose of revisiting this specific problem involving the adaptation of a video signal to carry color information is to demonstrate the importance of Fourier expansions in harmonic analysis and how it has been used in the past to solve significant problems which we may now take for granted. Herein the properties of composite signal encoding and transmission will be discussed, and the application of Fourier expansions will be demonstrated in order to show how this historical problem was addressed.
