Anthropogenic Impact on Panda Populations

The giant panda is an endangered species commonly found in China, however due to anthropogenic influences leading to habitat destruction and fragmentation, the populations are at risk. In this project, the logistic growth model is used to predict the population of a group of pandas after 100 years under certain parameters. The project showed that no matter the initial population, at the carrying capacity of 29 pandas for the region, there would be no significant increase in the population. This shows that even if the population isn’t immediately decreasing, the carrying capacity will decrease and thus negatively impact panda populations. More effective conservation management tactics need to be made in order to protect this species from eventual extinction.
