Road Construction

Submitted : Fall 2013

For this project, I started off with two hills with opposite slope to create a downhill then uphill.  There were three essential stages of this project.  The first was to find the length of the vertical sag.  This was complete with the given equation, the second part was to find a quadratic equation to where it can symbolize the road constructed to go up and down this hill.
For the final part of this project, I then found the volume of the road in m^3 if it was 10 meters thick.  This represents the amount of concrete that would be used to create a similar road.  This was completed by taking an integral of the equation found to symbolize the road subtracted by the hill.  The results is the equation y=.004*x^2 - .005*x +.1265 and the volume is 4.728 m^3.
