Enabling Correct Dosage of the Antibiotic Vancomycin To Prevent Nephrotoxicity

by Lisa Veri

Submitted : Fall 2013

The purpose of this study was to establish a mathematical model to show how nephrotoxicity associated with higher doses of vancomycin affects patients. While the two have been established as linked together there is no function to help establish levels at which nephrotoxicity will be less likely. The derivative and integral of the function were determined and plotted to aid in determining how the incidence of nephrotoxicity affect the hospital as a whole, and how results obtained from laboratory testing tie into the big picture.
