Probability for Checkout Times

by Madison Patten

Submitted : Fall 2012

For this project we observed the amount of time a number of subjects spent checking out in line at a local discount retail store. By creating a histogram and using different parameters created from the data, we were able to observe the results as being a normal distribution, and could therefore use the Gaussian function. Thus, making it possible to select any time interval within the curve function and calculate the probability of the event (of checkout) occurring within that chosen interval.
