Polytropic Processes in a Compression-Ignition Engine

by Arthur Mendonca de Souza

Submitted : Fall 2012

In this project it was described how the work and power of an engine can be calculated using thermodynamic concepts in a polytropic process. The relation between the pressure and volume of the gas in different moments of the cycle of a compression-ignition engine helped to determine the final work done by the piston during one cycle, information that is essential to calculate the total horse power of the engine.
