Transfer of Heat in a Cylindrical Bar

by Bryan Lendzian

Submitted : Fall 2009

An equation of heat transfer in a round bar being heated at a steady rate was provided. The equation was solved using various calculus techniques. These included solving integrals, infinite series and trigonometric expressions. The result of the simplified equation was then used to create a plot showing a decreasing heat transfer as the ratio of (r/R) was increased and - - being equal to zero. The infinite series was solved by using the spreadsheet and adding n until the series converged on a number.
