Critical Dampening in an RLC Circuit

by Frank James

Submitted : Spring 2009

This report details an investigation into the critical dampening of an RLC circuit. The goal of this project is to find the value of minimum resistance that will ensure no oscillations in the current or capacitor charge of a particular circuit. The values of the voltage, capacitance, and inductance are all given, as well as the initial values of current and charge. Equations for the change in current and change in charge over time, both of which depend on the resistance, are also supplied. In order to find the key value of the resistor, the aforementioned equations are to be integrated using a first order Euler method. Rather than integrating these formulas in a conventional
