Simulation of a Thrill Ride

by Humberto Isaza

Submitted : Spring 2012

In this project we look at the simulation of a thrill ride and study its dynamics. The car will go down a parabolic ramp and oscillate back and forth until it comes to a stop. We derive the equations given in the problem to find differential equations of position and time. We then use Euler’s method to calculate a numerical solution for the position and velocity as a function of time. As well as producing graphs of velocity and position we investigate the importance of the time step and its size.
