Optimization of an n-Stage Compressor

by Kahan Nazar

Submitted : Spring 2012

The goal of this project is to determine the values of the intermediate pressures that will minimize the total work per unit mass done in a multistage gas compressor. In order to find the intermediate pressures that will minimize the total work done by the compressors, a partial derivative is taken with respect to all the intermediate pressures. The value of the partial derivative was set to equal zero in order to find a local minimum of the function. This is where the least amount of work is done for the given function.
