Bicycle Speed Through Three Gears

by Ryan Roseboom

Submitted : Fall 2011

The goal of this project was to plot the velocity of a bicycle and rider as a function of time, given the needed parameters and the pedal force supplied by the rider. The maximum velocity for each gear, as well as the time it took to reach that velocity was found using specified radii, pedal force and maximum angular velocity of the pedals. After calculating all of the information, the plot of velocity as a function of time was made. The graph of velocity as a function of time is a useful tool for comparing two bikes with different specifications.
