Surround Sound Encoding

Surround sound is an important aspect of entertainment and a representation of the advances in technology. There are several types of surround sound in use today. One method, most commonly referred to as 4-2-4 processing, involves encoding and decoding signals to produce the desired sound. In this project, the aspect of encoding is examined and performed on four streams of information. In addition, the signals are compressed, which allows for the exploration and the use of the Discrete Cosine Transform. This is followed by the graphing of the DCT signal along with the graphing of the original signal. The graphs and calculations are interpreted and used to explain the encoding process used when creating surround sound through 4-2-4 processing.
