Calculating the Mass of a Rocket from a Design with Non-Uniform Objects

Mass is not always readily able to be determined by conventional means. In this paper, we use mathematical methods to calculate the theoretical mass of a rocket design. The relationship of mass with density and volume allows us to determine the theoretical mass. Volume is calculated for uniform shapes using simple formulas, and integration methods are used to calculate the volume of the non-uniform objects. Using this theoretical mass, many more design decisions can be made. These decisions can include cost, fuel, alternate construction materials, and flight predictions.
