Structural Analysis by Integration

by Jordan Zariczny

Submitted : Spring 2018

This project illustrates how the volume and surface area of a complex object can be calculated by applying Calculus methods such as the volume of a solid by revolution and surface area by revolution. The problem is, is that to apply these methods a function is needed to integrate with boundaries. A function can be obtained by separating the dome of the tower from the cylinder (Figure 3) and plotting the height of the curvature of the dome vs it’s diameter in excel. A curve of best fit can be used to find the function and integration can proceed to find the volume and surface area.
