In the modern world there is heavy competition in nearly every industry and competitiveness is now more than ever a crucial aspect of success. Large corporations and even small businesses strive to increase their overall productivity to increase profit and the longevity of the business. Engineers worldwide use a variety of tools to improve systems of manufacturing, packaging, transportation, and the many other components of modern business. Calculus is used in a variety of ways to find economic compromises that benefit companies and entrepreneurs looking to find ways to improve themselves. Optimization is used primarily in complicated systems with certain constraints to form effective systems that utilize the seemingly “hidden” values that most effectively use resources. This project discusses a use of optimization and the effects using calculus can have on forming effective systems in today’s world.
