Analysis of Pulley Systems

by Aldric Griffin

Submitted : Spring 2018

I compared multiple pulley systems that were used to move weights vertically and analyzed their ideal mechanical advantages and the amount of work needed to move such weights vertically. I did this by calculating the tensions of the ropes of the pulley system using the top most pulley as the basis of the free body diagram. I concluded that a four-pulley system is the most effective of the four tested as it reduces the amount of force need by 4.
