Resonance in a Suspension System

by Andrew Tanasescu

Submitted : Fall 2008

This report focuses on measuring the phenomenon of resonant frequency in a cars suspension system given a cars weight, coil spring constant, shock absorption rate, and a height of a series of bumps. Calculus is used find an equation to provide a value for a resonant frequency. Then amplitude is then also calculated for the resonant frequency. These figures are then verified by graphing amplitude versus frequency. Also, by knowing a cars resonant frequency for a given weight and suspension system, and given a the distance between bumps, a velocity is calculated which creates a resonant frequency in a cars suspension.
