Volume of Crater Lake

In order to better understand the way in which a body of water is effected by seasonal changes as well as climate scientists are asked to monitor the amount of water within a specific body throughout the years. Using a variation of Simpson’s rule the volume of water within Crater Lake was measured. This variation is that instead of plotting X and Y coordinates and determining the amount of volume under the curve a grid is outlined at the water surface and bathymetry maps used to determine depth of said grid. The water level of the lake can lend to further assumptions of what the global temperature is doing by determining the amount of water is lost to evaporation or gained through rainfall. This base measurement can be used to compare the levels measures at a time in the future. At present the lake was found to hold 18.8 km3.
