Calculus in Civil Engineering (Max Beam Load)

by John Hernandez

Submitted : Fall 2015

In the field of civil engineering the correct beams are a very essential aspect of designing any structure. In this project we take a deeper look in how civil engineers in the field use math, predominately calculus, to choose the correct beams for the current structures. The process is used to make sure the beams chosen can withstand what its expected to endure and keep it safe for anyone on or in the structure. The procedure varies a bit when used either a cantilever or steal I beam.

What I did in the project was show and explained the equations along with the steps that civil engineers take around the world to measure the force that two different beams can handle. This project explains the effort that civil engineers put in creating structures.
