Formula SAE Tire Model

by Simon Restrepo

Submitted : Fall 2009

The Goodyear 20.0x7.0-13 Eagle D2692 Formula SAE Tire was used in this project. The Goodyear Eagle D2692 is a dry tire. The coefficients of the Goodyear tire were provided by Goodyear to the FSAE Tire Consortium who then makes the data available to all the Formula SAE teams. Race Car Vehicle Dynamics book was used to find all the equations to model the tire. Once all values were found, they are plugged in into the three main equations to find Lateral Force and Longitudinal Force. After those two values are found for different slip angles, they are plotted on a graph. The graph helps one understand how the tire behaves at different loads and at different slip angles.
