Domestic Dog Population Estimate for Hillsborough County, FL.

by Andrew Rainey

Submitted : Spring 2015

The aim of the project is to provide an estimate of the domestic dog population throughout the years in Hillsborough County, FL. This is determined by first using the human census counts for Hillsborough County, starting from 1960 up to the 2200 estimate (Hillsborough County Government). The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has created equations to determine an estimate for the dog population by using the human population numbers. The estimated dog population numbers will then be able to be used with the logistic growth equation and determine the carrying capacity and rate of growth for the domestic dog population in the county and estimations of the future population can be also determined.
