Analysis of Forces Experienced by an Uke due to Three Different Judo Throws

by Danielle Rehberg

Submitted : Fall 2014

This project presents a mathematical analysis of three common Judo throws performed by four black belt throwers (tori) on one black belt faller (uke) to derive the average acceleration, impact velocity, and G-forces experienced by the uki during impact onto safety mats (tatami). We will use concepts from calculus and physics in combination with data from a study performed by California State University Sacramento as a basis for this paper’s mathematical analysis of the Seoi-Nage, Harai-Goshi, and Osoto-Gari throws.
