Importance of Proper Dosage Calculations

by Alyssa Kulow

Submitted : Fall 2014

In medicine calculus is used widely in calculating drug dosages. Drug dosages are important because they varry from person to person and also differ between types of drugs. When administering drugs, the rate of dissolution needs to be calculated because they could dissolve too slowly. If a drug administered dissolves at too slow of a rate the paitent may be exposed to toxic side affects or the drug could prove to be uneffective in treating the patiens needs. The method used in this project determines the drug dosages a person needs based on surface area of the solid, concentration of the solid, diffusion coefficent, thickness of diffusion layer, and concentration of the drug in bulk.
