Regression Analysis of Campus Tours

by Jeremy Abreu

Submitted : Spring 2014

The purpose of this project is to create a curve that accurately portrays and predicts the amount of guests that will show up on a campus tour, by analyzing the data from the Fall 2014 semester. A polynomial regression was used, and through the use of Excel and Geogebra, the data points were plotted with the graphs simultaneously to determine the best fit.

The curves were made based on a weekly span, and then, used to extrapolate for the whole semester to create a function that could be used to predict the amount of guests in attendance no matter the tour time or day during the semester. The curves were checked for accuracy by then taking their integrals to see if the amount of guests that showed up overall was remotely close to the actual number of guests, and therefore would reflect that the function was a good fit.
