Submitted : Spring 2014

We use calculus methods to create a standing wave model of the moment before the breaking point of a guitar string. We consider the speed of sound and the string’s physical traits such as mass and length. Parameters must be identified such as the type of string as well as the note played. With all calculations presented, we can model a standing wave equation with the correct parameters and are able to find its speed. This reveals the nature of the standing wave of a before the breaking point of the string.
