Determining Volume of Tanks in a plug Flow Reactor

by David Meyers

Submitted : Spring 2014

Using an assumed steady state flow, which is a fluid system that has a continual flow with no variations in pattern or rate, the objective of this project is to calculate the minimum required tank size (volume), bounded by a ratio of volume relative to one another, for a plug flow reactor to process a minimum of 90% of the contaminants (NH4 & NO3) using a nitrifying and a denitrifying process with a given rate of treating the chemicals in each tank.
