Optimization of an Irrigation Channel

by Andrew Stevens

Submitted : Spring 2014

The optimal perimeter of the irrigation channel is needed to minimize the cost of lining a channel in concrete. To find the perimeter, L, the equation for the area of a trapezoid was used to optimize the height, d, with respect to an angle. The perimeter, L, can then be used to find the amount of concrete needed to line an irrigation channel of any distance. This process will allow for you to minimize the cost of the concrete used.
