Analysis of Radioactive Decay of Uranium 238

by Lynn Fischer

Submitted : Spring 2014

Uranium 238 has the longest half-life of any compound, approximately 4.5 billion years. The decay of uranium 238 happens sequentially, its decay was represented by a series of differential equations, which were solved. Beginning with 1000 atoms of polonium 218, the species present and the amount of each, at 30 minutes was found.
