Optimizing A Vessel

by Andrea Arnstein

Submitted : Spring 2013

The objective of this problem was to successfully create a liquid storage vessel having a total volume of 100 ft3 and the vessel had to be optimized in both cost and material usage. To optimize the vessel I found the cost equation needed in order to find out how much the optimized vessel would cost and I also found the equation to find out the optimal material needed to use to construct the capsule. Using my material equation I found that the optimal diameter of the capsule is 3.30268 ft and the length is 9.47107 ft. Then using the found numbers I plugged them into the cost equation and got the approximated cost to be $4857.81.
