Silver Nanoparticle Saturation of Clay Pot Water Filters

The volume of silver nanoparticle solution and correlating mass of silver nanoparticles needed to saturate the inner layer of clay of a clay pot water filter without any excess liquid was acquired via the washer method of integration. The dimensions, composition, and manufacturing specifications of the clay pot filter were given to provide sufficient information. Simple algebraic graphing and solving, compositional analysis of the pot, and washer method of integration were the approaches taken to find the final solution. To saturate the first layer of clay, 1.662 liters of silver nanoparticle solution would be required, necessitating 365.733 mg of silver nanoparticles. Further analysis of saturation volumes and silver nanoparticle solution volumes were taken, solving for the lower limit of saturation and the effective saturation of practicing manufacturers of the inner layer of clay.
