The faculty of the Department of Mathematics do research in several areas of mathematics and related areas. To find the research areas of individual faculty, consult the faculty research page or go to the faculty web pages. Several fields of expertise for our faculty are described next. Classical Analysis, especially Approximation Theory, Complex Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, and Special Functions. Discrete Mathematics, in particular, finite combinatorics, theoretical computer science, and applications to biology. Nonlinear Functional Analysis with emphasis on accretive and monotone operator theory and abstract differential equations. Differential Equations, especially control and optimization. Probability and Statistics, especially applied statistics, probabilistic methods on algebraic and discrete structures, stochastic control and modelling. Topology, especially knot theory. Topology at USF has close links to the Discrete Mathematics group.
