Synthesis of Nanoparticles

Our laboratory is equipped to perform chemical synthesis of various magnetic nanoparticles.  Recently, we have successfully produced barium ferrite nanoparticles using a microemulsion process.   The photo below represents the polydispersed barium ferrite nanoparticles after it was grounded from the agglomerated form.

It is also important to coat these nanoparticles with a fatty acid, such as oleic acid, and size select them in order to achieve monodisperse particles.  The surfactant will prevent the clustering of nanoparticles when dispersing them into functional host media such as polymers.  The size selection will allow ordered arrays of barium ferrite nanoparticles to be deposited on a substarte using the Langmuir-Blodgett method.
